What makes you eligible for VA disability compensation?

The eligible veterans receive monthly tax-free payments when they meet the following eligibility conditions:

  • When you have a current injury or illness that is affecting your mind or body
  • When you were on active duty for training, active duty, or inactive duty training
  • One of these conditions should be true:
  • You got some illness or suffered an injury while you were on active duty and you can claim in-service disability claim, or
  • You had a medical condition before joining the military service which got worse during your service, or
  • You had a condition related to active-duty service that did not show any sign until you retired from your service.

When will you receive the VA Disability payout?

The Department of Veterans Affairs processes the VA disability compensation on the first day of the month, if the payday falls on a public holiday or a weekend, the veterans will receive the payment earlier on the business day before the pay date.

When a person applies for the VA disability compensation and gets confirmed their disability rating (the severity of their disability), the payout will be processed within 15 days of confirming the disability rating. The disability rating should be at least 10% to receive the payout.
